About
The Wellington College Runathon is a cherished annual event that has been a significant part of the school's culture for over 26 years. Initially conceptualized as a 40-hour famine-style event in collaboration with World Vision, it evolved into a 24-hour relay run, fostering both community spirit and charitable giving. Throughout its history, the Runathon has successfully raised over one million dollars for various charities. In 2023 alone, participants collected $112,162, reflecting the community's dedication to supporting those in need.
The event is meticulously organized by a group of senior students known as the "Super Six." These students take on the responsibility of planning, coordinating, and executing the Runathon each year, ensuring its continued success and alignment with the school's values.
The Runathon began as a way to engage students in both physical endurance and community service. Over the years, it has grown into one of the school's most significant fundraising events, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for both local and international charities. The event not only fosters school spirit but also teaches students the value of giving back.

How It Works

-
Participants sign up to run at scheduled times over a 24-hour period, ensuring continuous movement.
-
Leading up to the event, students gather sponsorships and donations from family, friends, and businesses.
-
A festival-like atmosphere is created at the school with music, food stalls, and entertainment to keep spirits high.
-
The money raised is distributed to a range of charities, which often include organizations focused on homelessness, youth support, food security, and international aid.

The event has helped foster leadership and teamwork among students, as they organize, promote, and participate in the Runathon each year. It has also created long-lasting community relationships with supported charities, ensuring that Wellington College continues to make a tangible difference in people's lives.
